Collaborative Paintings
I’ve added some new paintings to the gallery. These are collaborative works created during 2008 between myself and Seattle artist Adam Ross. We combined his figurative and realist oil painting style with my acrylic, collage style. Most of the time I would start the painting and then we would pass it back and forth several times. This would allow a balance of input. It was very exciting to watch the paintings evolve. I don’t know if this would be a conducive way to work for many artists, but we both had a good appreciation for our drastically different styles. It was a very fun learning experience and I think we both adopted new techniques from each other during the process.
We had a work table in the center of our studio that we were sharing at the time and referred to it as “the think tank.” Most of the ideas for the paintings began while sitting at the think tank, most often very late at night while looking at books, listening to music, talking about travel and a bottle or two of wine…
